NJBankers Economic Leadership Forum: A Day of Insights & Impact
Thank you to everyone who attended our 15th Annual Economic Leadership Forum last week. The event focused on the key drivers shaping New Jersey's economy and the challenges and opportunities ahead.
The day began with Matt Colyar, an economist with Moody’s Analytics, giving an economic outlook, including the impact of tariffs, interests rates, AI, jobs, and more.
This was followed by an engaging panel on the film industry in NJ led by Karen Kessler, commissioner of the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission (above). Nick Maniatis of Netflix explained how they are building a state of the art studio at Fort Monmouth, and compared the studio to a small city, which will need businesses to supply lumber, clothing, hardware, and much more. “It’s going to be great for the economy,” he said.
Ron Shevlin of Cornerstone Advisors focused on AI, data, and tokenization. He stressed the importance of education before making changes and investments in AI, and the need for quality data, which directly affects your AI strategy.
Addressing capital strategy, Adam Mustafa of Invictus Analytics said that New Jersey banks - given how competitive the landscape is - need to win on the margins and have to look under every rock. “This includes capital. You’d be surprised how much capital you’d find if you looked under every rock.”
Jeffrey Otteau of the Otteau Group, Inc. (below) closed out the day with a session focused on NJ’s real estate and lending outlook.
He told attendees that the economy is now growing and is certain to accelerate as we head deeper in 2026, adding that vibrant economies are good for real estate markets. NJ real estate markets, he added, are performing better than they have in more than a decade.
Thank you again to our Economic Leadership Forum sponsors for making the event possible.
